History and progress

Asosiasi Biorisiko Indonesia merupakan langkah inisiatif dari para profesional yang peduli akan keselamatan dan risiko dalam bekerja dengan bahan dan agen biologis. Pada tanggal 4 Maret 2011, Drs. Ondri Dwi Sampurno, MS., Dr. Agus Purwadianto, Dr. drh. Darminto, and Dr. Herawati Aru Sudoyo menghadap notaris di Jakarta untuk memformalkan inisiatif tersebut. Tanggal tersebut diadopsi sebagai tanggal berdirinya ABI dan ke-empat profesional tersebut menjadi pendirinya.

Indonesian Biorisk Association (Asosiasi Biorisiko Indonesia – ABI) was an initiative from professionals who concerned about the safety and risk of working with biological agents and materials. On the 4th of March 2011, Drs. Ondri Dwi Sampurno, MS., Dr. Agus Purwadianto, Dr. drh. Darminto, and Dr. Herawati Aru Sudoyo appeared before a notary in Jakarta to formalize the initiative. The date is adopted as the founding of ABI and the four professionals are inducted as the founders.

Pnedirian ABI di umumkan oleh pemerintah Republik Indonesia pada 2 maret 2011 (Lembar Negara No. 45) diikuti dengan peresmiannya pada tanggal 26 November 2011 oleh Menteri Kesehatan Republik Indonesia yang menjabat saat itu, Dr. dr. Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih, di Jakarta.

The founding of ABI was announced by the government of the Republic of Indonesia on the 2nd of May 2011 (State Gazette No. 45) that was followed by the inauguration on the 26th of November 2011 by the Minister of Health incumbent at that time, Dr. dr. Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih, in Jakarta.

Setelah pendiriannya, ABI langsung terlibat aktif dalam berbagai aktivitas lokal dan regional berkaitan dengan keselamatan dan keamanan biologi (biorisiko).

Immediately after its establishment, ABI was actively involved in various activities at local and regional level that were associated with biosafety and biosecurity (biorisk).

ABI bekerja sama dengan agen pemerintah Indonesia dan luar negeri dalam meningkatkan kesadaran, kewaspadaan, dan kapasitas akan ancaman biologis, terutama dengan berkembangnya aktivitas riset dan industri yang berkenaan dengan bahan biologi, termasuk bahan alam.

ABI collaborated with Indonesian and foreign governmental agencies in raising the awareness, alertness, and capacity from biological threat, especially with the increase in research and industry activities that deal with biological material, including natural product.

A big momentum took place at the end of 2019 with the covid-19 pandemic, where ABI was heeply involved and played an important role in the handling of the pandemic, particularly related to containment of materials that were used in testing and treatment.
